How do you tell needed rest from procrastination?
From the outside, rest and postponement can look the same: you stop and do not work. The difference appears in what the pause does to your capacity. Rest makes it more possible to return to the task, while postponement often leaves the same pressure in place without a clear return.
Example questions
What happens after the break?
If an agreed pause leaves you with even a little more clarity, energy or readiness to take the first step, the break may be serving recovery. If you only keep moving the start without a boundary and the pressure grows, you may be postponing more than resting.
Do you need recovery or a smaller amount of fear?
When you are physically or mentally exhausted, forcing yourself can reduce capacity further. If capacity is there but the first step feels uncomfortable, a smaller and safer beginning may help more than another undefined pause.
A small test for today
Choose a specific break and decide in advance on one small move afterward. If you can return to that move without needing to solve everything, the break probably helped. If you keep negotiating for another pause, make the task smaller again.
